Teach Safety during “free-time”

Complex and varied after school programs and community centers can be quickly and easily set up.

Street Smarts online learning promotes the protection of children and young adults from violence, exposure to weapons and threats, theft, bullying, and exposure to illegal substances.  Street safety is linked to improved student and school outcomes. In particular, emotional and physical safety in school are related to academic performance. At the same time, students who are victims of physical or emotional harassment or who are involved in the sale or use of illegal substances  are at risk for poor attendance, course failure and dropout.

Street safety is about more than just teaching children to look both ways before crossing the street. Kids and teenagers should be able to go outside and play in a safe environment. However, a big part of that safety comes from knowing how to be street smart. There are many potential dangers when playing outside and in the streets, but teaching kids the basics of street safety like obeying street signals,  play safety and finding/creating “safe spots” can go a long way in preserving the safety of our children.
